Services for your Business
You've spent years building your business. This is where we make sure it, and the people connected to it, are actually protected.
As a Business Risk Architect with thirty years inside New Zealand's business insurance industry, I help business owners, shareholders and directors see exactly where their risk sits, and what to do about it.
Plan
Your business is an entity that has value to the shareholders, obligations to its creditors and derives profit from the key people that it employs.
You have business plans to support your growth aspirations and cashflows. You will have plans for mitigation of risks within the daily operations of your business. What we do is build the plan for the risk sitting around the human asset, the people.
We start by giving you a simple “Structural Triage Scan”, a view for you to look at your business across Shareholder Value, Debt and Key People.
If it identifies a risk that you would like to address then, we use specific questionnaires with the Directors to support understanding your business in the areas of Shareholder Value, Debt and Key People.
The purpose of this audit is threefold:
i. To ascertain the financial position of your business, and the Directors in relation to it.
ii. To identify and quantify the areas of risk to which the directors and your business are exposed and
iii. To recommend approaches to managing that part of the risk which you do not wish to carry.
The recommendations provided are designed to offer a strategy that protects your business and its associated individuals in the event of premature death or incapacity.
We also recognise this isn't only about the business. Most shareholding has a family standing behind it, a spouse, a partner, sometimes a co-shareholder you've never met socially. If something happens to an owner, that family may inherit a stake they never wanted. Worse, if the agreement behind it isn't funded, the remaining shareholder and in turn their families may be expected to help buy that stake out themselves; a much bigger ask if the shareholder in question holds a majority stake.
The recommendations we build are designed to protect your business and the key individuals and in turn protect the families connected to it.
Protect
There are four main types of risk responses for business.
Avoid:
Eliminate the risk by changing plans or removing the risk source
Transfer:
Shift the risk to a third party (e.g., through insurance or outsourcing)
Mitigate:
Reduce the likelihood or impact of the risk
Accept:
Acknowledge the risk and prepare for potential consequences
The concept of Business Insurance is to provide the cashflow, control and certainty to the business owners.
The basis for creating this control and certainty is to transfer the risk of the business and use Insurance to underpin the solutions of:
Shareholder Protection: Ensures continuity of business ownership if a shareholder dies or becomes incapacitated, allowing remaining shareholders to buy out the affected shareholding.
Debt Protection: Provides funds to repay business debts if a key individual (like an owner or guarantor) dies or becomes seriously ill/disabled, preventing financial strain on the business.
Key Person Protection: Offers financial compensation to the business if a crucial employee (whose absence would significantly impact operations or profits) dies or becomes seriously ill/disabled. It helps cover lost revenue, recruitment costs, and provides stability.
The questionnaire that was used in the plan stage, and the insurance solution that is put in place are then able to be used by legal professionals to put agreements in place that creates the intentions to transfer, reduce or accept the risk within your business.
While we don't provide general insurance as part of our product offering, we are able to refer you to one of our commercial partners, who have access to some of the most comprehensive policies on the market.
